Im sorry, but any writing that advocates death to someone is wrong.

If you want to preach love, kindness, and being good to thy neighbor, Im all for that.

    Ha ha!

Thanks for the kind words...Im just taking what MacVault is saying in context.
I dont believe (and if he is...Im 100% against his post. So forgive me folks if you thought I meant otherwise) that hes advocating death for gay youth...but rather a gay lifestyle will result in eternal death/damnation/etc as it conflicts with the scriptures he cited. I encourage folks to read my other posts (especially early pages) to get an idea of my own personal opinion. Stay well friend!

There are hells (known as "naraga") in Hinduism and Buddhism too, but none of them are eternal and all of them are only for people who have done really bad things in life - regardless of faith or lack thereof.

Christian believers who are enslaved by their fear of hell, as opposed to having their faith based on genuine love to God, will allegedly end up in hell anyway.

I was always under the impression that reincarnation was considered a kind of living hell, like reliving Junior High School over and over again.

The fire and brimstone of hell certainly figures in a lot of the fundamentalist sects of Christianity and many of the Protestant ones too. My father-in-law is a presbyterian lay preacher and constantly prattled on about it.

Naturally we should just hedge our bets on one right?

Here in reality, its pretty obvious to anyone paying attention that in the interim until renewables are able to take the stage as our top producers we have to go with an "all in" approach. There is no silver bullet at this point in time.

I dont understand the point in subsidizing any of them. I guess the point is, if we dont, power would be too expensive for people to buy but if our taxes are used for the subsidizing, then stop em, dont tax us and then we would have that money for the more expensive power. Does that make sense? Heres what I think: oil and gas powered everythings arent going away in our lifetime. Period. Drill as safely as possible and try to get off of mid-east oil. Meanwhile, learn the lessons of design flaws from past accidents and start building some nuke plants in safe areas of the USA. No new gas/oil/coal plants unless they make a difference in pollution or amount of power generator per fuel used. If they dont, whats the point? Just keep the old ones going. Let the market demands slowly bring us more and more electric cars and better options for charging them (someday: solar powered home/business charging stations). Listen to that crazy oil tycoon in Texas, and stop producing gas powered trucks and vans and the like; make natural-gas powered trucks. Let those who want to invest in true solar and wind power go for it; maybe in fifty/hundred years, that will be the way, who knows? If climate change is truly as dangerous and man-made as some say it is, theres no way we can flip a switch and solve this problem in just a few years. So stop trying. Little by little, new tech will get us to where we want to be.

Also try physical keyboards, NFC, OLED screens, WiFi etc. As far as making it through the day is concerned, I can show you how to drain iPhones battery in 6 hours. Whats your point? Use LTE when you need it.

Gee, you cant make that argument about ANY other phone now can you

The point is that many reasons for not using LTE for the iPhone yet involve LTE-inflicted drawbacks because of its current, early stage in its life cycle, and battery life happens to be one of those drawbacks

    Enjoy

    its really most fascinating...thank you

some of us hardware side IT people often make fun of the software IT people and it is often because of the introverted way most of them act or their lack of knowledge of the hardware side of things

but whats interesting is that the hardware side techies like network engineers and desktop techs would not have anything to implement and maintain if it wasnt for those coders who make it all possible

i always hear a lot about the hardware side of apples products and the praise they get when things are done right, but i rarely hear about the heroes in the background, the developers who make it all run smoothly

of all the products apple has ever made, the mac operating systems is what really makes a mac a mac:D

..... If he does exist one must assume that he intends the Bible to be read literally. If he didnt then why did he go through the whole bother of having it written by the disciples in the first place if people were just going to change and reinterpret it willy nilly based on whatever the current political or social ideals of the time are?

not at all......God is perfectly aware that people make mistakes. Indeed, they cant be trusted to get anything perfectly right, so if God wanted the Bible to have been taken literally, he have written it out himself and wouldnt have involved people in the project in the first place

OK, it seems like Woodcrest was officially unveiled by Intel on July 27 and the new Mac Pros were available for purchase (same day they were announced) on August 7.

So if it goes like that, we could see these things as early as late November, right? Just doing some wishful thinking! :)

Ugh, its gonna be hard waiting until December or January. I just hope the price wont be so much higher than what we see now.

Its difficult to say. Intel has been making engineering samples of Cloverton available to companies like Apple and Dell and motherboard makers for a while now. From the time Intel formally announces availability to the time we can buy a Cloverton Mac Pro should be a matter of days, maybe a week or two. Now, if there are problems with cooling or voltage or BIOS/ROM incompatibilities/bugs to work out, then it could be longer. Im pretty confident that it wont be a delay anywhere near as long as the Merom Macbook[Pro] delay.

2.66GHz (or 3GHz? maybe?) Cloverton Mac Pro for me... :D Hopefully they have a better graphics card offering than the current choices too.

    Who cares?
I dont give a crap. My speeds are great even with all that.
Oh, OK. Youre one of those "hey, everything is great for *me*, so what the hell are YOU complaining about people". Cool.

I work in a decent sized office building where 3G speed isnt consistently great. I also know of at least four people that bring their personal laptops and torrent via MyWi here during the day so that they dont get the DMCA notifications (and risk of getting their service canceled) from their home broadband provider (Cox Cable).

If these people want to pony up and pay for the bandwidth that theyre using here, thats fine. But I bet they wont. And I also bet that overall speed for the AT&T 3G coverage where I spend the majority of my waking hours increases if they dont.

costs are all over the place here... on one hand the core 2 extreme is more expensive than a wood crest...but on the other the woodie is more expensive since there;s 2 and a more specialized logic board. what do I think will happen? I wouldnt be surprised to see a single woody system, just to save costs by having one type of LB/RAM, and larger quantities of the same processor to keep costs and logistics manageable.

I already have a bunch of Adaptec eSATA/USB2 SATA enclosures that say they only work as USB2 on Macs. But I wonder if they wont work on any eSATA PCIe card we can put into the Mac Pro. How expensive are those eSATA PCIe cards anyway?

I dont know why it wouldnt work... In fact, Im pretty sure Ive seen eSATA enclosures advertised as working with a Mac. Ill see if I can find one.

BTW I find USB2 HD hook ups to be far less problematic and just as fast or faster than FW hooks ups. Is that true?

Ive had pretty much the same luck... Some USB2 devices struggle a bit due to the onboard USB2 chipset, but for the most part, theyre equivalent to FW400 (with a max rate of 480Mbps) and USB2 handles traffic from multiple devices better than firewire. OTOH, lots of older Mac systems, especially those Powerbook G4s, struggled with USB2 and often exhibited poor performance. But overall, I think USB2 has a bad reputation that it didnt deserve to get stuck with. In my experience having owned quite a few USB2 storage devices, I find that poor performance is more the fault of the device maker than the interface itself as Ive got some hard drives - like a couple of my external Maxtor units, that perform blazingly fast and in no way slower on USB2 than when connected via FW.

I am one of the many people carrying them, but, sales numbers of those versus the iPod Touch, and iPhone are telling us that the fad is over. ;)

I dont want them to stop selling classic iPods, however I am not blind to the fact that I am a member of a dying breed of classic iPod users. :(

Oh yeah, its definitely trending downward now instead of still climbing, but it took almost a decade before that happened, not 3 or 4 years as claimed earlier. And they still sell millions every year, which you cannot say about pet rocks. Thats the difference between a fad and a popular product. In a fad, the sales dry up quickly.

i woke up to this...its shocking isnt it. That water is just ripping past anything it likes and leaving it destoryed. The tsunami looks like its going to be massive, and cause trouble for neigbouring countries / cities.

this is from the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/11/japan-earthquake-miyagi-tsunami-warning)
"The Pacific tsunami warning centre in Hawaii said a tsunami warning was in effect for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. A tsunami watch has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and Hawaii."

as for the earthquake being 8.9 it really shows how big that really is! Another fact from the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/11/japan-earthquake-miyagi-tsunami-warning)
"In 1933, a magnitude 8.1 quake in the area killed more than 3,000 people."

I can honestly and without exaggeration say that over half of the calls placed with my iPhone drop, and its been getting progressively worse in both cities where I use my phone. Its practically unusable.

My phone so consistently cycles between full bars and no service that Apple replaced my phone under warranty, to no avail.

I love my iPhone, but AT&T needs to go.

First and foremost, I myself am a gay male in his 20s. I know all about discrimination and bullying. Ive lived it first-hand, but perhaps nowhere near to the extent that it appears to be common these days, where teenagers are basically pushed to suicide in some cases. It is sad and I can barely begin to imagine their pain.

With that said, however, Im not super excited by these campaigns that seem to be sprouting, left and right, that, more or less, encourage people to be gay/lesbian/whatever. At the end of the day thats basically the underlying message in all these videos: "Go ahead, by gay. Its perfectly fine."

Personally, I think that is a decision that one has to arrive to after much soul-searching. Its a very private journey and Im not so sure that the media should be offering this type of "GO FOR IT!" message. One should come to accept who he/she is and embrace the inevitable consequences of the lifestyle. Lets face it, its not easy at all for the vast majority of people who live this lifestyle, no matter how picture-perfect they want to brag about how their life is. Thats 100% BULL. I have a very open-minded family (who even welcomes my other half like a son of their own) and I live in Orlando (one VERY gay city), but this alternate route is nowhere near easy or rose-colored.

So, Im very in between. Im all for ensuring we dont get mistreated or discriminated but I also think all these teens (the target audience of these campaigns) shouldnt be exposed to this type of encouragement either. Im very disgusted with the GLBT community as of late, with all the bigotry and one-sided attitude. Its funny how we all want to be heard, accepted, and given a chance to express ourselves and fight for what we believe in, but the minute any group, church, or organization stands behind their beliefs, theyre immediately labeled as hateful, homophobes with no hearts. Seriously, WTF? Arent THEY entitled to fight for what THEY believe in as well? I think respect is a two-way street. We sure cry and moan and whine if we dont get any of it, but I see a lot of my own community acting quick to bad-mouth anyone that doesnt support our agenda. Maybe thats why Im so "eh" about this whole thing.

This indeed makes a nice add on to the Soon Blue-Ray player and the home theater setup but this will never replace a tivo. The amount of things I can do with my Tivo, the fact that im always wirelessly streaming media from it to my computer and the fact that my Tivo can have slide shows and play my music like the iTV says alot. Again, it will be a nice add on if it dosent limit you to just iTunes downloads but never will it replace my trusty Tivo

Anyone hear of Apple going the opposite direction with the Xeon.
i.e. how about a single dual-core?To be more clear...
Mac Pro with 1 dualcore Xeon?

A whole line of Mac Pros then
    2 cores
    4 cores
8 coresSingle Dual Core is out of the question. Were way past wanting-needing less than 4-cores. Xeon are made to be used in pairs. What you probably mean is discussed above - a single 4-core Kentsfield processor (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=3014347&postcount=239) in a Conroe motherboard. Some of us hope that will be a sub $2k offering next year.

    More like:
    4 cores 2006
    8 cores 2007
    16 cores 2008
    32 cores 2009
    64 cores 2010
